“Performing With A Band Is Not Difficult As A Rapper ” – Donzy

Popular Tema based rapper Donzy, has disclosed that it is never difficult to perform with a live band as a rap artiste. Speaking on Showbiz Daily with Sammy Flex on Monday evening, the rapper said once he has rehearsed, he will deliver on any day.

“Performing with a band as a rap artiste is not a difficult thing. I have performed with a band before on Citi TV. If you rehearse with the band, you can always deliver. As a performer, I am always cool with both miming and the band. It all depends on who is billing me and the kind of show i am to play. If you want me to play live, I do that. Once I’ve rehearsed, I’m good to go. I think most of the time rappers feature singers and don’t get them for their live shows that’s why they normally mime. Because in the absence of the featured artistes, you need to do everything yourself and that sometimes affects your performance” he explained.

Responding to the pressure from music fans who think he has been in the industry for long without EPs or albums, the rapper said that such people don’t really understand how the industry works. He said it is never easy to make things happen as an independent artiste in the country.

“People like that don’t really understand the industry. They don’t really know what they are talking about. It is not easy in the industry and it is sometimes sad to have people compare you to established artistes who are on record labels, have a team supporting their works, comparing these artistes to an independent artiste who has to hustle to record, shoot videos and promote their works” he said

Donzy further explained that artistes can’t also say that they won’t push because they have no labels. “You still have to push. Do what you can afford to do for yourself. But you don’t have to release EPs or albums because people think you have been in the industry for long and that have to release EPs or albums. There are a lot of people who have no EPs or albums but are really doing well as artistes. I have been around for a long time but came to the limelight just five 5 years ago and I am doing good” he said.

When asked about his challenges, he said he is one artiste who has come to accept challenges in the industry as part of the hustle. “Shatta Wale is making it, Stonebwoy is making it, Sarkodie is making it. It is the same industry. So why should I complain? I need to work on myself so I can also control my game. If you are an up and coming artiste, you need to tune your mind off the challenges of the industry and work hard. You will get there” he added.

Many expect to see Donzy perform on Sarkodie’s Black Love Virtual Concert but the rapper disclosed on the show that he has not been billed for the show as of the time of the interview.

The rapper is currently promoting his new song “Odehyie” which features Fameye.
