“Ghanaians Should Stop Saying I Stand A Chance In Winning VGMA Award Because Shatta Wale And Stonebwoy Are Not Part” – Ras Kuuku

Ghanaian Reggae/Dancehall & Afrobeats artiste Ras Kuuku, has said that people should stop saying he stands a chance in this year’s VGMA awards because Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are not part of this year’s edition.
According to Ras Kuuku in an interview with Sammy Flex on Showbiz Agenda on Zylofon 102.1 FM, he said these two artistes don’t compete with lucifer so he doesn’t see why people think their absence gives others greater opportunity. He said he is the only reggae/dancehall artiste in Ghana to release an album in 2019.

“But why do people say I stand a chance now because Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are not part of the awards? Ghanaians should not say I stand a bigger chance of winning because Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy are out of the awards. These artistes are not competing with lucifer or God, they are competing with we same artistes. All these artistes in the dancehall artistes or song of the year category, are all hardworking artistes. So nobody should say because they’re not part, someone stands a bigger chance. AK Songstress is a big artiste, J. Derobie is big, Jupitar is also big, Epixode is big, almighty Samini is also in there and if they were to be part, they would’ve competed with these same human beings. So if they are not part, those of us in there are competing for the award. So people shouldn’t say that”.

He added: “In 2019, all the nominees have worked but Ras Kuuku’s work stands out. My Kuntunkununku the Heaviest album proves this. From Track one to fifteen. I am the only reggae/dancehall artiste that released an album in 2019”.

He further explained why he named his album “Kutunkunukun The Heaviest Album”. “I named my recent album “Kutunkunukun The Heaviest Album” and this relates to our Akyem Kings in the eastern. And you know about Ras Kuuku, I try to portray our culture to the world and some of the rich cultural stories we have here. Especially the youth, they need to know what some of us didn’t even know before. People google Kuntunkunkun to find out exactly what it is. The album took me from Ghana, Accra to New York. And the youth in New York who jam to my songs honoured me with excellence in reggae music award” he revealed.
