Okyeame Kwame Urges Ghanaian Musicians To Get Insured

Rap Docta Okyeame Kwame as a campaigner for Insurance Awareness Coordinators Group has hit social media with his #insurancewithOK campaign urging Ghanaian musicians to get insured so they don’t find life challenging when age catches up with them.

Speaking on Okay 101.7 FM on Ekwanso Dwoodwoo with Abeiku Santana, the rapper said it is time to look at some of the more important issues that we mostly overlook as young people. He revealed that most of the time, the conversation about insurance, social security and financial literacy are swept under the carpet because we are too afraid to engage what’s really important. It’s about time!

“Well as to why they choose Okyeame Kwame, I will leave that for the company boss to explain. But the reason why I am part of Get Insured campaign is that, as young people growing in Ghana, some of the conversation that brings security and longevity are not things we take much interest in. Because growing up, if you talk to me about insurance, I will tell you such conversation is boring. If you talk to me about physical policy, I will tell you it`s boring. Social security I will tell you it is boring. You talk about financial literacy, I tell you it is boring” he said.

He further explained that: “But today, as I started making a family and my mother is growing old, I have come to realize that, it gets to a point where as a young man growing you need to get involved with the real things that actually affects your life. So I decided that, instead of waiting and wishing that nothing bad happens to me in life, why don’t I begin to look at some of the things that are important in my life. Abeiku you know that in the industry that I find myself in, when you get old and can’t perform your shine dies out and a younger person takes over. But how can I survive after that happens? So I wasn’t reluctant when I received an invite from the company to help propagate the importance of insurance because I knew it is the right thing to do. This is the right time for such a conversation”.

According to him, as musicians there are different insurances one can subscribe to that will go a long way to help you later in life.

“There are a lot of insurance deals that can help musicians. There are a lot of insurance policies. You can even insure your voice so that when someone hits your throat and you can’t sing again, you can demand for some money. When you fell off the stage and gets injured badly and can’t perform again, as a musician you can demand some money that can take care of you for the rest of your life. One of the major reasons that have made people lost interest in insurance is that genuinely people go for claims but get refused or go through lots of frustrations. So as we advice people to get insured, we advice companies to also work properly to attract clients. I urge Ghanaians to get insured. No one knows tomorrow” he stated.
