NFA-Action Group Petitions Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Gov`t To Re-open Cinemas
The NFA – Action Group (NFA-AG), a creative arts industry pressure group has started “Open Our Cinemas Now” petition drive calling on the Presidency through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to immediately take action to lift restrictions on cinemas in Ghana. The petition was presented to Honourable Barbara Oteng Gyesi at midday on Wednesday.
A statement from the group states that, they have carefully evaluated the potential spread of the virus at cinemas and the attached risk assessment shows the residual rating are safe for reopening. According to them, His Excellency, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo should lift restrictions on Cinemas in the country just as restrictions on a number of sectors where large groups gather such as Churches, Mosques, drinking bars and tourist sites have been lifted for full operations.
NFA-AG commended Government for the stimulus packages put in place for the Creative Arts Industry and further said that if the Government accepts their petition to allow the cinemas to reopen, the industry will recover much sooner from the impact of the pandemic.
