“It Is Bias To Have An Artiste Manager On An Award Board” -Celestine Donkor

Award-winning Ghanaian gospel musician Celestine Donkor has said that it is totally wrong and bias for any award board to have an artiste manager as a board member.

Speaking on Ekwanso Dwoodwoo with Abeiku Santana, she said that doesn’t give room for transparency and objectivity and must not be entertained.

Celestine on the show admitted that there are mafias in the gospel industry just as any other field that sabotage the success of others because they see them as competitors.

“I cannot point out names but of course in every industry, there are people who are not happy about the success of some industry players. We have people who are not excited that you are achieving success so I believe that the gospel music industry also have such people. Some have very good minds. Personally in my career I know people that have supported me not because I have given them something or paid the cash. They just believed in my talent”.

She further added: “And there are some who will also not support you even if you have the talent. Again there are some who work with other artistes and for that matter see every other talent as a competitor or an enemy. It is unfortunate but that is the reality. And this is why I don’t even know why an award scheme should have an artiste manager on its board. I don’t think it is right. I think it is bias. It will not help for decision made for the awards to be objective. Because if my team member is on a board, he will not go speak for other artistes. So I think that, the board should have neutral people that are not specifically assigned to any artiste. So that decisions taken will be general”.
